Pride. Progress. And the Work Still to Do.
June is Pride Month—a time to celebrate, to honour the trailblazers who came before us, and to recommit to the ongoing fight for equity and inclusion.
I’ve been part of the LGBTQ+ community since I was 14 years old. It shaped me, strengthened me, and connected me with a community that has given me both courage and conviction. Today, I’m also the incredibly proud parent of a transgender son, who, after navigating a system that too often fails trans youth, was finally able to receive gender-affirming top surgery. Watching him walk more freely in his own body has been one of the most profound experiences of my life.
And yet, while I celebrate, I’m also deeply concerned.
Over the past few years, I’ve watched a noticeable pullback in corporate and community DEI efforts. Words without actions. Rainbow logos in June, but little measurable progress in July. Performative gestures (if they’re still being performed) are replacing courageous leadership. In a time when we need more inclusivity, not less, this retrenchment is disheartening.
But I remain #Unstoppable. Because I’ve never waited for the world to make space—I’ve always made it myself. And I will continue to do so for others. For my son. For the many voices still fighting to be heard. For every person who deserves not just inclusion, but true belonging.
So this month, I’m raising my voice a little louder. Because visibility matters. Advocacy matters. And progress, though never linear, is worth every ounce of effort.
To all those celebrating: Happy Pride.
To my allies: Your support is needed now more than ever.
And to those still seeking safe spaces: I see you. You matter. And I’ll keep doing the work to help build them.
